Every year, Nikofarm aquaculture introduces into its cages 1.5 million fry, which weigh 2 grams on average, to fatten and package them and, subsequently, sell its products in Greece and abroad.

The fish farm is located in the north of Evia, at a distance of 10km from Edipsos. It is situated within the channel of Orei, where the sea current flows strong, thus ensuring that the water is continuously recycled and the fish are perfectly oxygenated and moving constantly. These elements lend themselves ideally to the incomparable taste and unrevealed quality of our fish.

The water temperature in this area remains comparatively low and, in summer, does not exceed 26°C. Therefore, it is feasible to breed species which prefer lower temperatures, such as the sea bass. We also breed three other species: sea bream, meagre and pagrus.

The fish are bred in big cages and their number per cubic meter (fish density) is exceptional low. Therefore, our fish grow almost as if they were living in the open sea.

Therefore, our fish grow almost as if they were living in the open sea. Fish breeding lasts 18-24 months, each time, before the products reach the consumer. As a result, Nikofarm is one of the few farms in Greece that applies the “long life” fish breeding process. That means that our fish, although they reach the marketable size of 450gr in 14-18 months, we have decided to keep the fish in the cages six more months following a low-fat diet. This strategy, which is high in cost for the company, results to have much more healthy, low fat, tasty fish, with longer lifespan as a product.

In the packaging process, Nikofarm utilizes cutting-edge technology in its state-of-the-art facilities of 1000 square meters, with all the necessary certifications. (HACCP certification No: GR12S13EEC

To be more specific, as the packaging facilities are within a distance of 100 meters from the cages, the fish reach them promptly, straight from the sea in just only 5 minutes. Therefore, the postmortem rigidity of the fish can be maintained, so also different ways of packaging, such as the “curve”, are possible.

More than 15 tons of fish can be packaged, in every way the customer desires, within 24 hours and can be stored in ice-chambers until the process is completed.

Within only a few hours, fresh fish can reach every port in the country, such as Piraeus, Patras and Igoumenitsa, all the fish-piers as well as Eleftherios Venizelos Athens Airport for export and air transport, through a network of transportation partners.

The entire process is constantly monitored by a team of conscientious staff, led by an experienced ichthyologist. Pavlos Nikolaou himself, works at the fish farm daily and so does his son Harris, who started working with his father, on a permanent basis, in 2009, when he graduated from the department of Business Administration and Management at the University of Piraeus.

Nikofarm aquaculture constantly gives priority to the quality of the fish, by keeping it always constant, in every shipment/order sent, confirming the relationship of trust and mutual respect, that has been built among our customers & partners, all these years.
